A more entertaining performance than Monday's defeat by Wealdstone resulted in a 4-3 win for Northwood after extra time against a resilient Camberley Town side in the Allied League Cup.

Camberley kept their defence tight and forced the Woods to use the width of the pitch. When they did, the Woods looked dangerous, but too often the midfield players tried to dribble through the middle of the park, playing into the hands of the visitors.

Northwood did create a number of chances, but could only put one away in the first half, when Tom Jansen drove home an Aiden Lynam cross, after 12 minutes. Unlucky John Fitzpatrick hit the woodwork on three occasions, but it wasn't to be his night.

From a quick breakaway Charlie Oakley equalised for Camberley on 30 minutes, and Ross Thompson averted another Oakley chance when he dived at his feet to deny them a second five minutes before the break.

The Woods started the second half using the width more, and the Lynam brothers caused Camberley problems with their runs down each flank. The Camberley goalkeeper kept his side in the game with a string of good saves.

But against the run of play Camberley broke away on 83 minutes, Ross Thompson misjudged the cross which dropped on the goal line, and Frank Lynam could only put it into the roof of the net when attempting to clear.

Woods came straight back, though, and two minutes later Chris Michael drove home after cutting in from the left, to take the game into extra time.

Extra time was only two minutes old when Maccabi Thomas put Woods ahead, and when Aiden Lynam bent a free kick around the wall to make it 4-2 we thought that was it.

But Camberley came back once more, and three minutes from time Darren Redwood broke away to give the Woods a nervous finish. Fortunately for Woods, vehement penalty appeals by Camberley players went unheeded by the referee at the death leaving Northwood narrow 4-3 winners after extra time.

Man of the Match: Aiden Lynam
